2025 Voice Lesson Handbook

GENERAL POLICIES

  1. Lesson Commitment: Amanda Kohl’s time is reserved specifically for you. Payment is required for all scheduled lessons, whether attended or not.

  2. Lesson Content: Some lessons may focus entirely on selecting repertoire or technical work (e.g., diction, breathing, rhythm, movement) and may involve minimal singing. This is considered part of your vocal development.

  3. Home Studio Safety:

    • Parents/Guardians must not drop off a student at the Oak Park home studio without ensuring Amanda is present.

    • For in-home lessons, a parent/guardian should be present unless otherwise agreed.

    • Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend or drop in on at least one lesson per month.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

  1. Practice: Students should practice at least 30 minutes a day to ensure steady progress.

  2. Recording Lessons: Students are encouraged to bring a device to record each session for use during weekly practice.

  3. Prepared Repertoire: Students are expected to learn all assigned songs completely and have them performance-ready—even if not intended for performance.

  4. Materials:

    • Sheet music must be kept in an appropriate place (digitally or otherwise) and brought to every lesson.

    • Include lined paper for notes or bring a separate notebook.

  5. Practice Logs: Each student must maintain a weekly practice/performance log for review.

  6. Vocal Health: Please inform me of any vocal health concerns, including illness, allergies, asthma, TMJD

    (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder), or recent vocal strain (e.g., cheering at a concert). Awareness of these

    issues helps me adjust our work to keep your voice healthy.

  7. Music Costs: Students are responsible for the cost of any downloaded music. Invoices will reflect music purchased during lessons. Additional materials (books, anthologies, recordings) may also be requested.

SCHEDULING & CANCELLATION

  • Be on time and ready to begin at your scheduled lesson time. Lessons end at the scheduled time and are not prorated.

  • If you are late, Amanda may extend the lesson by up to 5 minutes only if the schedule allows.

  • If Amanda is late, she will make up the missed time during a future lesson or extend the lesson if the schedule allows..

  • Barring any emergency, Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to be eligible for rescheduling.

  • Virtual options via FaceTime, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams are available during your regular lesson time if you are unable to attend in person.

  • Once a makeup is scheduled, it cannot be rescheduled. No refunds for missed or canceled lessons.

  • If discontinuing lessons, a 30-day written notice is required. Payment is still due during that time, even if lessons are not attended.

PAYMENT POLICY – FALL 2025

  • Fall 2025 Session runs September 8 – December 21, 2025

  • Tuition holds your reserved weekly lesson time. All lessons must be used by December 21, 2025.

  • Payment Due: on or before August 31, 2025

  • Package Rate: $1125 for 15 weekly 60-minute lessons

  • Payment Options:

  • In-Home Lesson Travel Fee: $15 per lesson

  • Late Payment Fee: $20 if not received within one week of the due date
